New Orleans Dumping

Monday, October 31, 2005

After Hurricane Katrina there has been tons of rebel and wreckage everywhere. The Sierra club is trying to get the dumping to occur in a safe manor. However the state has allowed dumping in a dump that was previously closed by the federal government because of failure to meet regulations.

While environmentalists are concerned, it seems that the general feeling of Hurricane Katrina victims is that they just want to get their stuff back to normal after the storm. There is a tract of land east of New Orleans that has been turned into an area for industrial waste. There is tons of sheet metal and other waste now in this tract of land. The creek that runs through it is starting to take on the color of rust.

While it is not possible to see into the future, I think disregarding the environment after Hurricane Katrina is probably a bad idea. However in the past, New Orleans has used the swamps outside the city, and the river as dumping places for waste.
