New Orleans Flooding

Friday, September 23, 2005

New Orleans is suffering from some localized flooding. In the 9th ward there was an 8 ft storm surge that rose over the dam and caused some flooding. Army engineers are working hard to contain the flooding in New Orleans. However it repeated the flooding that happened in New Orleans.

Several blocks where under 10 feet of water earlier today. The major breach is going to be quite a problem for the army. It is their worst fear, that with waters rising, there is a major breach in their levee. The devestation caused by this New Orleans Flooding is very unfortunate, and a repeat of Katrina.

The most deaths in New Orleans occurred when water started to rush through the Levee system that protects New Orleans from flooding. Within a few short moments of that time New Orleans was under water.

Luckily Hurricane Rita has been weakening. If it had remained the category 5 storm that it was originally, there would be much flooding in the area of Houston and Port Arthur. There are projected swells of 5-15 ft in these areas which will cause some pretty damaging floods. Hopefully flooding will remain minor.
