Brown Blames Louisiana for Response

The former Federal Emergency Management Agency Chief Michael Brown testified before a congressional committee today about the response in New Orleans and Louisiana to Hurricane Katrina. Brown stated that New Orleans and Louisiana officials were reluctant to evacuate in the shadows Hurricane Katrina. Brown stated that he tried to get the officials to order a mandatory evacuation but could not convince them that Hurricane Katrina was going to be such a huge problem.

Michael Brown said "guess you want me to be the superhero that is going to step in there and suddenly take everybody out of New Orleans." In response to the accusation that he was an not capable to do his job. He said that since he was not a dictator, he could not evacuate everyone out of New Orleans and Louisiana as Hurricane Katrina was coming.

Brown resigned on September 12th after receiving criticism about the nations response to a poor job with Hurricane Katrina. Michael Brown was also criticized for his lack of emergency management experience and inconsistencies in his resume. Over 1,000 deaths have been reported in wake of Hurricane Katrina.
